296 WOMEN ESTABLISH POULTRY FARMS

Under Village Uplift Program in Shah Rahim village of Khulm district and Socio-Economic Empowerment of Women and Men in Chimtal district, 296 women who previously completed poultry vocational training received enterprise startup kits including layer chickens, feed, feeder, water-pots and other necessary tools for establishing backyard poultry farms.

Director of Balkh Women Affairs, District Governors, and representatives of Provincial Councils, Economy, and Agricultural departments participated in these distributions.

Ms. Shahla Hadid, Director of Women Affairs, speaking to Self-Help Group members said “This is a great opportunity for you, make best use of it. Everyone doesn’t get these types of opportunities to learn business and receive support for establishing an enterprise. I am expecting to see you all run successful businesses in future.”

District Governor and other authorities spoke with entrepreneurs and encouraged them to take good care of the assets provided by HiH Af and make good use of these assets to generate income.

HiH Af is implementing Village Uplift Program in Shah Rahim village of Khum district, funded by Hand in Hand International that supports 112 women, and Socio-Economic Empowerment of Women and Men project in Chimtal district of Balkh province, co-funded by HiH Int. and CAFOD, covers 961 (83% women). These projects aim to train vulnerable women and men in business development services and enterprise development in order to create sustainable micro-enterprises and create job opportunities for rural community members.
