WOMEN JOIN HANDS TO BEAT POVERTY
8 women have come together and established a business, creating job and generating decent income to support their families.
In Shahrak Ulia of Faqir Abad village, 8 women, from different self-help groups have come together and jointly established a noodles production enterprise. These women are producing about 100 packages of noodles daily and sell it to local market. Each of these women are earning around AFN 50,00 per month from this business, which enables them to support their family and overcome financial challenges.
Hand in Hand Afghanistan is implementing Village Uplift Program in Shahrak Ulia to support 110 women, the project is funded by HiH Int. and aims to train women in entrepreneurship, skills and provides support in micro-enterprise development, value addition and market linkage in order to economically empower and strengthen the socio-economic rights of poor rural women.
Zohra, mother of 5 kids, is one of the women working in this noodles production, she says ‘I work here up to 5 hours daily, and now I have a job and I am able to contribute in family expenses. I used to be jobless and didn’t have any income.’
These women have received training in group management, micro-finance, vocational skills as well as, they have received enterprise startup kit in order to establish their enterprise.
Khanom Gul, 52 years old, is another woman working in this enterprise, she says ‘I am now independent and I am able to pay for my personal needs.’
These women say ‘It is great to be able to run a business and generate income, besides supporting our families we are now empowered and we are continuously growing our business with support of HiH Af.’
