The HiH model builds on and underscores community self-reliance and increased household income. HIH Af pursues the creation of small enterprises and jobs that promote self-reliance at individual, household and community levels, which in turn contributes to economic growth at local and national levels. This is done mainly through the formation of SHGs of women and men from similar socio-economic backgrounds. The SHG approach is an empowerment tool that focuses on equipping the individual to improve the socio economic condition of their families and communities.
